Geological faults

Geological faults

Faults are cracks in the rocks along which movement has taken place. This motion is called displacement. Origin of the tectonic movements are forces in the earth's crust which cause breaks in the lithosphere. The tectonic forces are caused by the movement of continents. There are several types of failures here are two main types: faults with vertical and horizontal displacement faults.

Faults with vertical displacement:
Tectonic faults with vertical displacements can differentiate between normal faults and reverse faults. Normal faults mark a tendency of expansion, the compressive thrust faults trend.

Falla Normal - Falla inversa

Faults with horizontal displacement:
The flaws of course, with horizontal displacement can be different in those with a sinistral sense and sense hatchet.

Falla sinistral - falla destral / dextral
